BURDOCK
Arctium lappa
Also known as:
BEGGER’S BUTTONS, CLOTBUR, CUCKOLD, FOX’S CLOTE, HAPPY MAJOR, HARLOCK, PERSONATA
Parts used: leaves, roots, burrs, seeds
PORTRAIT
Burdock grows on wasteland and by roadsides. It has large leaves and thistlelike lavender-colored flowers. The flowers are shaped like burrs and attach to clothing and animal fur.
HISTORY
In the British Isles, dock or docken leaves have been picked and held to the skin to soothe nettle stings since time immemorial. Eating dock leaves apparently cured Julius Caesar’s soldiers if scurvy, they knew the plant as herba britannica.
Seventeenth-century herbalist Nicholas Culpeper believed that burdock worked wonders against bites from serpents or mad dogs.
Burdock has a long-standing reputation for boosting the immune system, aiding kidney or bladder disorders, and purifying blood.
HEALING
Today, it’s diuretic and mild laxative qualities gently remove toxins from the system, which may be responsible for its effectiveness in healing skin problems such as psoriasis, eczema, and acne.
For external use, lay crushed leaves over burns, skin irritations, or ringworm. For an anti-inflammatory and nerve-fortifying drink, steep equal parts of burdock root and hawthorn barriers. Burdock is used in protection and purification spells and is associated with Venus in both her planetary and goddess vibrations.

The only bad thing I find with burdock root is that it rasies your body temperature--not too much, but just enough to make you uncomfortable all day and it makes you sweat a lot. _________________ Grim reaper--"What are you talking about? Animals fight all the time"
