Aloe Vera ALOEs, ALOE VERA, BURN PLANT, MEDICINE PLANT Part used: leaves Aloe leaves grow tall and wandlike, with spines along the sides to protect them from grazing animals. According to legend, aloe is the only plant to come directly from the Garden of Eden. Aloe is usually found in dry, sandy, and rocky regions. It is used to treat gastroin-*test*-('")inal ailments, boost the immune system, and relieve pain. Aloe can be taken as a laxative in small doses; do not overuse. For a diuretic, mix a little of the fresh juice from the leaf with fruit juice and drink it before meals. Aloe juice is exported all over the world as an effective blood cleanser and laxative. Aloe's magickal properties include healing, luck, the gift of life, and protection. Planetary and deity associations for aloe are Mars and Venus. >DO NOT USE ALOE INTERNALLY IF YOU ARE PREGNANT> Aloe Gel While not a panacea, aloe can alleviate the sting and speed healing from cuts, burns, ulcers in the mouth, insect bites, and mild skin irritations. This gel will keep in the refrigerator for two months and is useful to have around for emergencies, especially if there are small children in your household. 1 large outer aloe leaf contents of 1500 mg powdered vitamin C capsule 20 drops lavender essential oil Peel the leaf with a peeler or paring knife and place in a blender or food processor. (If you do not own a blender or food processor, you can use a mortar and pestle.) Blend thoroughly. Measure 1/3 cup aloe puree; reserve any remaining puree for another use. How to Cultivate Aloe
Cultivation A suitable mixture consists of 2 parts loam, 1 part of peat, 1 part of very sharp, coarse sand (river grit is best), to which should be added a slow-acting fertilizer as is used in light potting mixes... Grow the plants in asunny green-house for summer. Water when soil is dry during april to September, but refrain when the weatehr is cold and dull; give a winter's rest. Pot in March or April. Temperature: winter, 45-50°F (7-10°C), summer to 65°F (18°C). Propagation is by seeds or offsets, some species by leaf cuttings. Seed should be sown in early spring in a light seed mixture, just covering the seed in a temperature of 70°F (21°C) for in lower temperatures seed is slow to germinate.
